OUR HISTORY...
The Alamar family has played a crucial role in the development of the vegetable oil sector in Spain, with a strong business tradition dating back to the 19th century. Its origins in the world of olive oil date back to 1883, when Mr. Agustín Alamar Ruiz, at just 8 years old, began working at an olive oil mill, Aceites Mocholí, which would later become his when he married the owner's daughter. On July 12, 1909, Mr. Agustín Alamar received the Gold Medal from King Alfonso XIII for being the leading exporter of Spanish olive oil, consolidating his position as one of the most important figures in the economy of the time. He was also the founder of the iconic brand "La Española" , which would later become one of the most recognized in the olive oil market.
Years later, his son, Marcelino Alamar Mocholí, expanded the family legacy, diversifying the business and incorporating new industries such as rice mills, flour mills, nougat mills (Meivel), and Flan Toledo. After his death, several companies were founded under his family's leadership, including Viuda de Marcelino Alamar, Sociedad Mediterránea de Industria y Comercio, SA, and Transaceite. The latter were led for many years by Salvador Alamar Belloch. "La Española," the family's most prominent brand, achieved great recognition for its quality and flavor, becoming a benchmark both in Spain and abroad. Eventually, the brand was sold to the Guillén family, who continued its expansion and consolidation as one of the most emblematic brands in the world of olive oil.
The story of the Alamar family is a clear example of innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurial vision in one of the most traditional and essential sectors of the Spanish economy, always maintaining a commitment to excellence and quality.
